YARRA: Inner-city police stations to close
Fitzroy and Collingwood Police Stations will be permanently closed to the public, under Premier Ben Carroll’s watch, claims Brad Battin, Shadow Minister for Police and Corrections (pictured).
“In November 2023, 43 police stations across Victoria had their public counter hours reduced as a “temporary” measure in response to ongoing Victoria Police staff shortages, “ Mr Battin said.
“Almost three years later, the Fitzroy and Collingwood police stations – which used to be open 24 hours to the public – will have their public counter permanently closed.
“Independent Crime Statistics Agency data confirms crime against the person – including assaults, robbery and threatening behaviour – have increased 25.8 per cent and theft has surged more than 22 per cent in the City of Yarra over the past two years.”
Mr Battin said: “Labor’s crime crisis continues to worsen as ‘temporary’ police stations closures become permanent.
“Local communities deserve to have their local police station open.”
